A Declaration of Independence

I was awakened in the middle of the night with this quote from the Declaration of Independence in my head, and could not get back to sleep until I had altered and photographed the painting and done a preliminary sketch to spec out the words.

Oddly enough, when I woke this morning I could not, for the life of me, remember the words that had come so clearly to me the night before.

I don't think the other version will get words on it, or at least, not these words. I keep thinking that one wants barbed wire, and chains...

It's so interesting, where painting takes us...
