Failing to render light

Here's another one that doesn't render as well in a photo as in real life.

Continuing the arc of yesterday, I wet the canvas and applied the saran wrap from the palette, then using wet brushes applied the remainder of the paint from the palette.

It's actually a lovely painting, and I'm very pleased with it, but I don't really think you can tell why from this photo. Oh, well -- it's clear the cellphone is not all that great at rendering white canvas.

And as I think about our world right now, I think that's a serious issue: the media we use -- the cellphones, the computers; the internet -- facebook and twitter; the national news, both fake and real -- none of them are very good at rendering light; they mostly render darkness -- and we, the consumers, have a tendency to feed on that.

We get our light from cute photos of puppies and kittens, and cute pandemic-centered renderings of familiar songs, but we can't seem to find the light in what is real: it's not presented all that well, and so it's hard to see the beauty...
